I read The Very Greedy Dog. It was a fable because it had a dog that was personified and it had a moral. The moral was don't be greedy or else you may lose the stuff you want.

I read Apollo's Tree. It is a myth because it tried to explain how trees were made. People believe the trees were made because Cupid shot Apollo and he instantly loved Daphne and Apollo was chasing her. She was annoyed so she yelled for her dad to help her. Her dad was mad at her because she wouldn't get married so he turned her into a tree. My myth had no hero, but it did have gods and goddesses.

I read a fable from the book Aesop's Fables. The fable I read was called The Cat and the Fox. One reason it's a fable is that there's animals as characters and they are personified (the Cat and the Fox).

Good work, Sean. I have one question for you though, how were the cat and the fox personified?

They were personified because they could talk.

I read the Greek myth "Arachne Verses Athena". Arachne was very vain and angered Athena by insulting the gods. She wove a quilt that made the gods look like fools. This made Athena very angry and she taught Arachne a lesson. Athena let Arachne live but turned her into a spider. This is a myth because it explains how spiders were created and how people sometimes fear them. It is also a myth because it is a story from ancient times.

Hi everyone,I read the story The Tangled Web Of Arachne! This story is a myth because it includes gods and explains natural phenomena. The god in this story is Athena, and her powers in this story are that she can transform into an old woman ,and turn a person into a spider. Arachne is a weaver and she thinks that she is a better weaver than everybody else including Athena the goddess of the loom. Athena interacted with Arachne by pretending she was an old women, after that Athena went to Arachne's house and then Athena transformed back into the real Athena and challenged Arachne to a threading contest. At the end of the threading contest Athena's loom showed gods doing heroic things and kind deeds however,Arachne's cloth showed the gods arguing with each other and fooling with mortals.Athena was really mad at Arachne loom ,so Athena turned Arachne into a spider!(Athena said that now Arachne could weave all day ,but everyone would just knock down her webs because they were a spiders). The genre myth is definitely not my favorite genre, fiction and fairytales are.Anyway, I recommend this myth to everyone.

Well done, Talia. This was a very detailed comment. It also sounds like this is a very similar myth to the one that Kira read this month. Maybe the two of your could chat about your readings during Daily 5 time this week. What do you say?

The story of King Midas is a legend because it was famous in the ancient times and tells you about what happens when true happiness is not recognized.

I read two fables. One is The Baboon's Umbrella and the other is The Poor Old Dog. The Baboon's Umbrella is a fable because there are animals as main characters(Baboon and Gibbon) and they are personified because they both walk and talk. It also has a moral which is :Advice from a friend is like weather some of it is good, and some of it is bad. The main characters in The Poor Old are the Dog and Mr. Terrier. They were personified because they wore clothes, walked, and talked. The moral is : Wishes, on their way, will not be rushed. This is why they are both fables.

I read Fin M'coul by Tomie De Paola. It is a Irish Legend about a giant named Fin M'Coul who was afraid of a mean giant named Cucullin. He wanted to run away from Cucullin but his wife Oonagh, made his stay at home and face the giant. She helped him outsmart the giant by dressing him as a baby and baking pans in Cucullin's bread and not in Fin's bread. Finally Cucullin asked to look at baby Fin's teeth and Fin bit off Cucullins magical brass finger that gave him all his strength.
